The Myanmar Border

Burma/Myanmar is one of four countries left in the world that still actively place land mines. The exact number of Burmese and Karen people becoming victims of these aged and nefarious weapons of war are unknown. However, it is clear that dozens of seriously wounded individuals cross into Thailand each year to seek medical care at the Mae Tao Clinic near the border town of Mae Sot. Several dozen clicks North of the clinic lay the Mae La Refugee Camp, the largest refugee camp in Thailand with a population fluctuating from 40,000-80,000 people depending on the current state of conflict. The camp, with no water or sewage system, seems to be a collection of hovels made from scavenged forest materials, crammed together as tightly as possible with some buildings overlapping each other.
