Bangkok Under Water

The natural disaster leaving most of Thailand submerged in the fall of 2011 is known to be worst flood the country has faced in for over five decades. Starting in the northern mountain ranges around Chain Mai, the ever increasing body of water swelled as it moved south, eventually hitting the capital city of Bangkok. Accounting for over 500 deaths, with 3 million people affected, and more than $300 billion in damages, the Thai economy was left crippled for a time as the Thai military, police, and international aid workers scrambled to rescue the thousands of stranded individuals, moving them to higher ground across the Chao Phraya river.
